The City

Cuenca is a city that sits in a large valley, privileged by the natural beauty of El Cajas National Park. Cuenca is situated 2,530 meters above sea level and surrounded by 4 rivers: Machangara, Yanuncay, Tarqui, Tomebamba. Because of its location in the mountains along the Equator, Cuenca's climate is cool yet sunny all year round.

Founded on April 12, 1557 by the Spanish, Cuenca has maintained its colonial heritage. The city is rich with elaborated churches and cathedrals, traditional neighborhoods and markets, archeological ruins.

Cuenca has not allowed its proud past to overshadow its present and future. On the contrary, Cuenca offers its residents a modern lifestyle, including a high standard of living, thanks to its state of the art water purification system, waste management, public transport, accessibility, an above all, its love for its inhabitants.
